Having front garden dug up - Avoiding NTL cables

I'm having my front garden dug up and having a paved drive.

Any tips on avoiding NTL cables

Whose responsibility is it if cables are damaged?

Thanks

If they are not run inside trunking then it would be Virgin's, if they are and aren't a spade's depth down, I would've thought Virgin's but if you go through them and they meet both of these criteria I would think that you would be charged for them. This isn't official or 100%, it's just my thoughts on the matter.

I wasn't in when cables were laid but the inpression I got from the misses was that they just sliced the lawn and laid it under the turf so won't be far down.

Guess I'll have to wait and see - will have to show the guys doing the drive approx where I think cables are and cross my fingers

Personally I would make sure the cables are in some ducting before the concrete is laid, because if you do have some problems in the future with the cable how are they going to get to it?

Good thinking - I've got about 6 weeks before anything starts so I'll try to remember

Re: Having front garden dug up - Avoiding NTL cables

If they aren't in ducting, I would definately get Virgin to repull them correctly before anything goes wrong

Official price for this if you request it is £75. If the install is fairly recent then you will stand a good chance of having this waived.

If you were installed over about 3 years or so, you would probably have to pay for it. Though you could then dispute it in writing

Though, as with anything like this, it will be looked on a case by case basis.

Alternatively, let the contractors cut the cable, kick up a fuss with them, and have them pay for the repull
