Ordered Virgin Media, Advice
Hi, After years of BT screwing us around and slow service we have ordered Virgin Media at Home. 4MB + Phone. I wondered if there is anything I should know before it is set up and anything I should do after it is set up?

Re: Ordered Virgin Media, Advice
Well if 2Mb would do, cancel the order and go here http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html...t/bb_deal.html
If I had gone ADSL to start with, I doubt that I would switch to cable, at least not until all the cheaper ADSL's had proven to be an irretrievable letdown - problem with cable is that there is now one company setting packages and prices, even worse than the comparison but no competition days of NTL & Telewest.
Have you thought about dispensing with fixed line phone altogether, using Voip and/or mobile?
On a serious point, if you had an ADSL modem/router before, you will now need a DSL/Cable (Ethernet in) router instead, if you had just a modem, then the Virgin modem will be sufficient, and if you had an ADSL modem and seperate router, then re-use the router.

Re: Ordered Virgin Media, Advice
Excellent! Now, When I phoned they mentioned something about software/CD. I said I use a mac and intend to go wireless from day 0 and they said it would not be a problem, and the enginner would explain it.
What on earth is this software? I do not want any stupid software installed on my system...

Re: Ordered Virgin Media, Advice
AFAIK the software only contains the drivers that you need to run the modem via USB.
If you're getting a router, and/or going wireless, then you won't need the CD or the drivers. You just need to set things up manually and make sure that you put adequate security in place for the wireless side of things.
Use the CD as a coaster

Re: Ordered Virgin Media, Advice
Cool, I ordered that one a few hours ago actually, albeit the GL model.
