Smile Choice of VM or Sky Base Package

I have just moved house and do not currently have any sort of entertainment package, I am however currently deciding between Virgin Media or Sky. I have been on VM before and the main negatives are on demand seemed to only work every now and then and broadband was sometimes slow or not working at all. The question is Sky any better ? I am trying to compare base packages 3 for £30 with VM and 3 for £26 with Sky. My biggest problem with sky is dish on outside of house but will do it if people think it is a big improvement i.e better value for money with a more reliable service

Any help would be very much appreciated ?

Re: Choice of VM or Sky Base Package

A lot does depend on your area.

VM's BB packages do seem to slowly be getting better, in some areas there is no problems, in others there are. however sky has equally the same problems.

For TV it again depends what you watch, at the moment sky anytime is a bit of a joke, as it has such a small selection, and with VM some areas have on demand problems.

Cool Re: Choice of VM or Sky Base Package

VM was previously supplied to house so they say I can install myself for free (which I hope would be stress free !). They will also upgrade me to XL phone package for 12 months (although not big deal as I am at work in the day and use mobile a lot). I do like VM on demand and am not that bothered about the Sky channels that were lost....

They say broadband is unaffected by weather due to fibre optics so why does VM cut out - is this something to do with broadband width and number of people using on your road at anyone time ?

Still not sure ?

How much do you want to spend per month?

I used to pay VM £100 per month for telephone, TV & 4Mb broadband. I opted for the £85 VIP package and used the £15 saved to get the Sky 2 pack choice, which allowed me to get Sky One and other channels.

You get a stack of free channels with Sky and I haven't been through half of them yet.

Why have one when you can have both?

Thumbs up Re: Choice of VM or Sky Base Package

Well thanks for all your help. I have gone for / back to VM. Sky is £15 with an extra £11 BT line rental so £26 in total. Did not really want dish on house and they gave me XL phone package for a year plus with hopefully Setanta Sports News coming it should be good. Just hope on demand and broadband are reasonably reliable - none of them are perfect ! Self start package so she has told me its as easy to set up as a DVD player - i will believe it when I see it !

Cool Re: Choice of VM or Sky Base Package

I am really not bothered about sky one as they took it off me when I was previous customer. Would I get HD with Sky base package - remember I am only comparing base packages. I know PACE boxes are rubbish but my last one did not have any problems....... Why is Sky so much better ? The dish on the side of house is big put off - they look so bad ! I could never watch all the channels anyway so why would I want more channels - considering most of them are rubbish anyway ....

You have already made up your mind, so what anyone says about why this and why that will not make any difference. makes me wonder why you even bothered asking now

Do I have to be sky's biggest fanboy to qualify for this kind of abuse?
