Re: Buyout firms set their eye on Virgin Media
Private equity companies usually have one of two objectives:
1. Take a struggling company off the stockmarket for a cheap price, turn it into a good perfoming company and re-float at a much increased margin and make a heap of cash.
2. Take a large company usually with several business streams and lots of assets, strip out and flog off the unprofitable parts (making lots of cash), keep the profitable bits and improve them, refloat (making lots of cash)
Both actions could be undertaken with Virgin Media. I would hope they go for option 1, because IMO Virgin Media could be managed better and could be a good perfoming profit making company.
Option 2 is certainly a possibility. Networks, Business and the Consumer division could all be split and run as three separate entities but this would be a bad idea IMO.

My E-mail has been playing up his is fine!
Evening till about eleven browsing can even be slow, his seems just a good as ever, but I can deffently see a difference over the last few months on my machine.
Same BF2 Project reality server mine sits on a ping of around 40-60 although it has been in the low twenties his sits sold on 22-30. Some nights he can play fine and I cant.
Performance wise his machine is basically same as mine but I have a slight edge with the newer CPU and better 6800gt gfx card.
so right now all those yikes in your post
Relate to how I feel about my virgin connection…

Virgin Media board keeps Carlyle at arm’s length until an auction starts
Elizabeth Judge, Telecoms Correspondent
The board of Virgin Media is refusing to talk to Carlyle about its $23 billion (£11.4 billion) approach until a formal auction begins. City sources said that the television and telecoms group, which confirmed yesterday that it had received a bid approach, is seeking to flush out rival offers before it enters talks with the American buyout firm.
It is understood that Virgin Media’s bankers, including Goldman Sachs, are preparing detailed financial presentations for potential bidders who may form a rival consortium. Providence Equity Partners, Blackstone, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and Apax are among potential contenders.
Goldman is also thought to be seeking a better understanding of the conditions on Carlyle’s $33 to $34-a-share offer, which includes a period of exclusivity. "...

Just seen this on the Telegraph website, says Carlyle will end the Virgin Media action against Sky and come to some sort of deal to get the channels back

Re: Buyout firms set their eye on Virgin Media
Pity we can get a Scandinavian company in to buy it as they seem to be on the ball with BB. Swedish BB is fantastic.
They probably think our fastest speed is still a bit poor.
