One Month On....

It is one month now since I had my Virgin Media installed. It was an add on to Telewest broadband which I already had. I got the V+ and another standard box in the bedroom plus free phone calls. I am extremely pleased. It does exactly what it says on the tin!

I also have Sky HD for over a year. I got the Virgin Media service to be able to draw an exact comparison. I intend to cancel one or the other in due course. Sky HD is a good service and at present leads with the amount of HD content. If HD is not your main priority then, in my opinion, the Virgin Media service is much more versatile. The features on the V+ box are excellent. The menus are very clear and the fast forward and rewind are way ahead. The ability to record two channels whilst recording a third suits me very well. The VOD service is very useful and way ahead of Sky's Anytime and it is also available on the standard box. If Virgin Media ever up the HD content to something like Sky, Murdoch should be worried.

Two Virgin Mobile simm cards at £10 per month each are the icing on the cake.

I have no axe to grind. I have no connection with either company and I am not on a witch hunt for Murdoch and I am not "in love" with Branson. At the end of the day they are both media moguls and are out to make as much money as possible.

This is just the opinion of a simple, but happy, consumer.

Re: One Month On....

For my two cents worth, I haven't had any great problems with NTL(now VM) either - touch wood, Cross fingers, Etc!

BB works fine - still waiting for the new EPG on the STB (no worry).

The only thing I'm a little hesitant on is a V+ box. It appears, for some it is installed and working fine - others are not quite so lucky

Could the sucessful install % be geographical - like the NHS lottry?

I too am quite happy with ntl / vm. In fact, when me and the wife were splitting up and I decided to move out, I wouldn't look a properties that couldn't get their service

Re: One Month On....

Despite the lack of HD content, besides BBC HD and a small number of VOD HD films, my experience with the V+ box is very good. The extra quality the HDMI connector offers over Scart is staggering, even for SD programmes.

Also my old NTL box used to crop the output to 4:3 even though programmes were made in wide. Now everything seems wide, without stretching.

The sound and picture quality of BBC HD Preview is staggering

However, what I struggle with is the loss of HD BBC prgrammes on demand. My old box used to show a huge list of programmes in HD, such as Planet Earth HD. Now that I have the right receiver there is none! Can somone explain that?
