Unhappy Sky are at it again!!!

So much for the "Cease and Desist" order that Virgin Media slapped on Sky a few weeks back!!

I noticed yesterday that there was an advert in the supplement that comes with the Mail. This advert was for the three services (Telephone, TV and Broadband). Sky do not appear to have made any effort to hide the reference to NTL/Virgin.

The advert states:

Quote:
Great News, Sky has combined three great products for £26 a month. Better still, this is not an offer, but a great ongoing price for new and existing customers. That's a saving of at least £305 a year versus ntl/Virgin
The same reference is made in the small print at the bottom of the advert!!

I also noticed another advert in the centre of the Sunday People. This was advertising the Sports Channels. Again, reference is made to the "Old" name.

The advert states:

Quote:
Get Sky Sports with See, Speak and Surf and save £171 vs NTL/Virgin
I honestly think Sky are upping the ante again!! Perhaps they are trying to reach court before the beginning of next month?? What do Sky think this is going to accomplish?? Yes, yesterdays advert could have been explained as a (big) error on the part of Sky and the publisher.

But to have two different adverts within a day of each other!! This has to be a deliberate attempt to enrage Virgin Media again!!

Oh, by the way, I tried uploading scanned images of the adverts, but they were too big!!

Re: Sky are at it again!!!

Well they seem to be backing off a bit - today's ads in the Murdoch Times refer to Virgin Media, formerly NTL:Telewest.

It's not worth getting bothered about........

If it upsets you, NewsCorp have succeeded.

Re: Sky are at it again!!!

Perhaps they are publishing the "ntl/Virgin" adverts in papers that do not belong to their "Empire"??

If they printed them in their own papers, surely they would be open to some sort of legal action (in addition to any impending legal proceedings on Sky itself).

The use of the term ntl/Virgin doesnt upset me in the slightest!! In my own opinion, the only thing that has changed with Virgin Media is the name!! Customer Services are more difficult than ever to get through to!! And to think that "Virgin Central" is going to shut us all up and keep us happy - well, VM have another thing coming!!

Re: Sky are at it again!!!

I think Sky is trying to take advantage of the oppurtunity. There are a lot of disgruntled VM customers curretnly, and even some which are on the line, not sure whether to stay with VM or change (either to Sky or to Freeview) and thus Sky are trying to reach them and encourage them to switch over at this oppurtune time.

I don't understand the issues with the NTL/Virgin name, however. It was called NTL previously and is now Virgin, some people are not even aware of the name change yet (apparently not everyone got letters, and there are those that aren't customers but still had an interest which might not have known). A lot of peoples equipment and even services are still labelled as NTL, so it seems to make sense to use NTL/Virgin for now, especially as this is a new change.

Was it definitely NTL/Virgin that was in the adverts, or was it NTL-Virgin? Apparently the latter was what they were using before and what the cease and desist was sent about - have they changed to using NTL/Virgin instead?

The reference was made to "ntl/Virgin".

I would imagine that the cease and desist order would have been asking for Sky to refrain from using ANY reference to ntl, as the company had by then been rebranded Virgin Media.

I suppose it would be the same as calling what is now O2, BT Cellnet?? Or even calling Orange, Hutchinson Mobile?

It is a petty war that VM have with Sky (regarding their name), but it obviously means alot to VM that they are called their rebranded name. In theory the use of one name helps to prevent any confusion for existing or prospective customers.

Thanks Jemo!! Glad someone notices that!

Gooner4life - if you had read a few posts above my last one, you would have clearly noticed that I stated that the use of the ntl name does not worry me in the slightest.

So it wont make a blind bit of difference to former Telewest customers that Sky by this naming seem to be ignoring

I don't think it makes a blind difference to anyone - just makes it even more apparent how desperate Sky are.

BSB really need to stop this.

Then again BSB was a far superior technology to the rented decidely dodgy system that Sky decided to favour.

Re: Sky are at it again!!!

Well I can see why they use the NTL reference, all of my bills still come on NTL paper. I am sure that a lot of users will not be aware that they are now with VM rather than NTL.

Untill VM have completed their rebranding exercise (so bills, EPG etc are all branded as Virgin) I completely understand why they will continue to be refered to as NTL / Virgin, as that is just a representation of the current brands involved.

Re: Sky are at it again!!!

Well Some Of You Out There Love To Moan About Anything.
Well That Is Your Right.
Why Moan About Cable Taking Off Sky 1/2 Sports/news, It Was Sky That Did It.
Who Are You Going To Blame When Sky Remove The Channels From Freeview, And On Top If You Want To See The Channels You Will Have To Get A Stb From Sky And Then Pay To Watch The Sky Channels.
Big Deal I Must Say.
Tex
