news groups

Does anyone know how to access news groups. i keep hearing about them but have no idea what exactly they are

ok - load outlook express
click "tools" on top menu bar
Choose "accounts"
Click "news" tab
Click "add" button - choose "news"
Type in a name (any you like) - click "next"
Type in an email address (e.g your real one but put in some extra characters like hat - then tell people to "remove hat" if they want to reply by email)
- click "next"
Type in the server e.g. text.news.ntlworld.com - click "finish"
Click "yes" to get the group headers down from the server.
