NTL Ireland take on Eircom

# 4 June 2004, 14:22 by Nemesis

NTL have announced that they are to spend €100m (£66.6m) to upgrade and expand it’s cable network in Ireland. This will allow NTL to reach a far wider audience of Broadband users than they currently do.

The planned upgrade and expansion will take a number of years to complete, but there should be some quick wins by the end of this year. It’s estimated that Broadband will available to approximately 100,000 users by the end of this year.

When the upgrade is complete, in 2006, they will be able to sell their Broadband services to most homes in the greater Dublin area, Galway and Waterford.

Eircom are likely to feel some pressure from this announcement, as they already sell ADSL, and claim about 50,000 subscibers. Another added benefit for the consumer, is that NTL intend to price their services under the current market value.

From August:-

  • 300k service will cost €25 (£16.65) a month
  • 750k service will cost €35 (£23.30) a month
  • 1.5 Meg service will cost €50 (£33.30) a month
