Virgin to launch 500GB version of its TiVo box

# 12 April 2011, 16:28 by Chris T

Virgin Media will launch a stripped-down version of is TiVo set-top box next month. The new box will come with 500GB of space for storing programmes – less than half the terabyte-sized storage in the current model.

The 500GB TiVo box is aimed at customers on VM’s lower service tiers, making it available to ‘TV-L’ and ‘TV-M+’ customers for the first time.

As with the terabyte model, there will be three on-board tuners, allowing viewers to watch one channel whilst recording two others.

Subscribers will be asked to pay around £50 up-front for a TiVo box and will have a monthly TiVo charge added to their bill as well.

The terabyte version of the TiVo box is expected to remain exclusive to VM’s top-tier ‘TV-XL’ customers.
