Virgin to throttle BitTorrent.

# 16 December 2008, 12:15 by stuart

Virgin is to change it’s traffic management policies to Application based throttling. Read this for more.

Despite stating earlier in the year that they had no plans to do so, Virgin is looking to implement application-based throttling around the middle of next year.

Virgin are still developing the details of the implementation (such as throttling times, and which applications to throttle), but the CEO, Neil Berkett said that the new traffic management policy will come into force around the middle of next year.

A company spokesman did not provide more detail, but said “Broadband has become integral to delivering home entertainment services and with data consumption growing rapidly, we are exploring new ways to enhance our product offering. Part of this involves intelligent monitoring and understanding the way people use our broadband service.”
