Virgin Mediantl Telewest has officially announced today, the new name for the branded company under Virgin, it is as it was expected to be, Virgin Media. There is still no actual date when the company plan to rebrand over to the new name, ntl have only announced that it will occur in the early stages of the first quarter of 2007. Our earlier news stated that Marketingweek, had reported that ntl:Telewest is apparently plotting a major Valentine’s day re-launch under the new Virgin name.

According to industry sources. An inside source of ntl and Telewest has apparently reported the ntl and Telewest brands will be scrapped and replaced with the brand name, Virgin Media, on February 14th 2007.

Virgin Vision, a name which was trade marked at the start of the year, was another expected name on the cards for the combined cable giant, but Virgin had earlier requested for the name to be withdrawn.

Commenting on the rebranding, Steve Burch, Chief Executive Officer of ntl, said:

“Today, we are announcing a change in our company name to Virgin Media and our plans to rebrand our existing consumer division early next year, backed up by a significant media campaign. Virgin Media will exploit its unique ability to offer a “quad-play” of digital TV, broadband, mobile and home phone services to deliver an unrivalled choice of high quality content and communication packages. We believe this will significantly enhance our competitiveness and growth opportunities in 2007.”
