ntl to begin upgrade work for 2Mb to 4Mb speed uplifts [Updated]

# 5 June 2006, 18:13 by Cable Forum

ntl:telewest have alerted us that they will be carrying out upgrade work starting tomorrow for the speed uplift of 2Mb to 4Mb. ntl will be rolling out new cable modem configuration files in Cardiff, Swansea and Belfast this week.

In a statement issued to us, the ntl:Telewest internet team said:

As part of our on-going plan to develop our customers’ broadband experience we would like to inform ntl customers of planned upgrade work.

In preparation for the next round of speed uplifts (the increase from 2Mb to 4Mb as previously advised), we will be rolling out new cable modem configuration files in Cardiff, Swansea and Belfast this week.

For customers who know what type of cable modem they have, this work will affect the following modems:

  • 3COM CMX
  • 3COM Tailfin
  • Motorola Surfboard SB3100
  • Motorola Surfboard SB4100
  • Terayon
  • ntlHome 200
  • ntlHome 250

In addition, we also need to upgrade the configuration files of ntlHome 100 & ntlHome 120 modems, which we plan to do in the near future.

If you are outside of the three areas above, the configuration files are yet to be deployed but will be done by the end of June.

There is nothing for customers to do with their equipment or service – ntl is performing all the necessary changes to enable the speed increases.

Updated 7/6/06: STB users on 2Mb have been asking when they will be receiving the increase to 4Mb, Cable Forum has been in touch with ntl and they have sent the following short statement:-

We are continuing to complete our broadband speed increases for customers. We are planning to uplift customer with STBs over the coming weeks and will advise customers of the impending changes. We will automatically upgrade customers with a Samsung STB and will advise customers with a Pace STB of the process to swap equipment.
