A Telewest press release announces the cable companies speed boost schedule of 10MB, the fastest home internet connection currently available today to 40,000 customers in Scotland. Motherwell, Dumbarton, Castlecary and Uddingston will see their home connections boosted for the second time in 12 months, at no extra cost, breaking new bandwidth barriers today.
The cable company has also announced the roll-out schedule for other areas of the UK, with a further 100,000 customers in London set to receive bandwidth boosts by the end of September. All customers in Scotland will be upgraded by the end of October. For information on the next phase of the speed upgrades, customers can visit: www.blueyonder.co.uk/evenfaster.
The following tiers of service are now on offer in parts of Scotland:
- blueyonder broadband
Previously 512Kbp/s (kilobits per second), the entry-level service is now up to 2Mbp/s (megabits per second), for the same price of £17.99 per month
- blueyonder broadband complete
The standard 1Mb service now offer super-fast surfing of up to 4Mbp/s, still at £25 per month
- blueyonder broadband elite
The current 2Mb and 4Mb options have been replaced by a flagship service offering speeds of up to 10Mbp/s, which will cost only £35 per month
All the tiers will remain free of usage limitations.
Eric Tveter, president and chief operating officer of Telewest Broadband, said: “We’re committed to rolling out these significant speed increases to all of our blueyonder internet customers by early next year. Combined with our new PCguard security package, our customers are enjoying fantastic added value.”
Telewest Broadband made its PCguard service available to new customers earlier this week, an easy-to-use, yet comprehensive online security package. Around 60,000 existing customers have already downloaded the pre-configured security solution, which includes a firewall, anti-virus software, anti-spyware, a pop-up blocker, parental controls and automatic updates.
