Telewest drops Nickelodeon channels

# 16 December 2004, 20:06 by Cable Forum

One of our forum members has reported to us this evening that Telewest has dropped the Nickelodeon channels, this includes, Nickelodeon, Nick Toons, Nick Junior and Nick Replay.

Telewest have apparently failed to agree to Nickelodeons commercial terms and as a result Telewest have dropped these channels from their analogue and digital platforms.

This message is currently being shown to Telewest customers who try to access the channel.

Telewest’s president and chief operating officer, Eric Tveter has spoken to Digital Spy, “We do not take the removal of any channel lightly, but we likewise cannot ignore programming costs if we are to continue to offer our subscribers excellent programming at competitive prices. We remain open to negotiation with Nickelodeon for future carriage of their channels.”

Nickelodeon has set up an appeal website which includes numbers for Sky or homechoice incase parents whose children watch the channel on a regular basis, want to carry on watching the channel.

NTL customers are not affected and can still continue to watch the Nickelodeon channels.
