More ntl Broadband speed changes?

# 27 October 2004, 12:21 by Cable Forum

NTL appear to be upping the stakes, as we have recently learned that ntl have plans for more speed changes, either at the end of this year, or early next year. These will be optional increases (and not free) and both 2Mbps and 3Mbps have been mentioned.

There is also a mention that ntl are likely to re-introduce the lower speed of 150K, this old service tier was recently upgraded to the now 300K service tier.

All this is being made possible by the current large scale upgrades to the network which started in the summer, in preperation for the current free speed upgrades. No mention has been made of upload speeds.

The one thing that comes to mind is that, Telewest currently offers a 3MB service, which could be an indication that ntl may very well be getting prepared for a merger with Telewest.

More details to be followed if/as they become available.
