Telewest Broadband provides Digital TV for Dixons shoppers

# 26 October 2004, 12:53 by Cable Forum

Telewest Broadband launches a new retail partnership with the Dixons Group which is offering a unique, unbundled digital TV pack called ‘Essential TV’ – The product is said to be exclusive to Dixons on the high street and will be available in 55 Dixons stores nationwide.

This move is said to provide Dixons customers with a new choice of TV service.

A Telewest Press Release says: “The company’s Essential TV pack will offer low set-up costs, interactive services, more channels than Freeview and the ability to add premium channels, for a very competitive monthly fee of £13.50.

The pack includes a range of more than 70 popular digital channels including the 15 most watched* channels, including Sky One, E4, LIVINGtv, BBC News 24, Cartoon Network and Discovery. Free interactive services include TV email, shopping and games plus Front Row, the movies-on-demand service.

The service costs just £30 to install and, unlike Freeview, Telewest Broadband customers have the peace of mind of ongoing equipment maintenance and the option to upgrade to Sky premium channels.

Eric Tveter, president and chief operating officer at Telewest Broadband, said: “We’re delighted to be offering our Essential TV pack through Dixons stores and hope it will give shoppers a welcome new choice of entry into digital entertainment.”

Purchasing is easy – shoppers check availability in their area before confirming details with a Dixons assistant. They pay the installation charge in-store and then freephone Telewest Broadband to arrange a convenient installation time.

John Mewett, Dixons marketing director, said “The popularity of digital television is booming, and we’re delighted to offer a further option for receiving digital programmes to our customers.”
